The United States Post Office expects a 8.5 billion dollar deficit this year. That is on top of the 34 billion it is already in debt. Ah yes, another government program mismanaged. What did they do about it? Hand out 3.5% pay raises across the board of course. I wish I could do that in my private sector business. What happened, how did things get so out of hand? They will tell you it's because of email and that seems to make sense but it's only partially true. The real reason is because of employee benefits including pensions. Do you understand what a government pension is? Employees continue to get paid even after they retire or lose their jobs. What?? Yes it's true, it's the same with all government pensions. The employees pay little or no money in to the pension and the taxpayers pick up the tab for the rest. It's the same with their health benefits, they continue even after they are no longer employed.
How can we fix the post office?? Well for starters, we need to dissolve the union or negotiate new contracts eliminating pensions and stopping health benefits upon retirement, that's what we have Medicare for isn't it? Here's an easy fix... Stop mail delivery on Saturday... Duh...
